Missed the open enrollment deadline: Can I still get health insurance?

Most individual must purchase coverage during the open enrollment period (November 1 – January 31st).  However, there are some exceptions:

Do you have a qualifying life event? If you have a qualifying event, you may be eligible for a 60 day special enrollment period.  Qualifying events include losing employer sponsored health insurance, divorce, marriage, moving to Washington, a change in citizenship, etc.  Contact us for help determining if you are eligible for a special enrollment period.

Are you eligible for Apple Health? Apple Health is free health insurance for low income individuals in Washington State. If you are eligible based on income, you can enroll anytime.  You can find more information about Apple Health and eligibility here: http://www.hca.wa.gov/medicaid/publications/documents/22_315.pdf

None of the above apply?

You can purchase a short term medical plan to cover accidental injuries or illnesses. You can find quotes and apply for coverage starting as soon as tomorrow by clicking this link:

Short Term Medical Insurance

These policies will not help you avoid the penalty for not having health insurance.  However, they will provide you with “in case of emergency” coverage.
